hypertension in overweight people can be treated - blood pressure help, medical advice and information

Hypertension in Overweight People

Hypertension in overweight people should be given special consideration. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), overweight people are especially prone to developing cardiovascular diseases. The latter are usually dependent on blood pressure fluctuations. A study conducted by French scientists illustrates this point.

Overall 104,236 women and 139,562 men participated in the study. The study captured the time period of over 14 years. Both men and women were in their early 40s. Between the years of 1972 and 1988 these men and women were subjects to periodic blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Their sugar levels were also assessed. Over 5 percent of participants in each group were obese.

The comparison was made between the people who were considered overweight and the people who were regarded as having normal blood pressure levels. The research findings indicate that in addition to higher blood pressure levels, overweight people were also more prone to stroke or heart attack. Moreover, death rate was three times higher among the overweight men who were suffering from diabetes than among the men with normal blood pressure levels. Overweight women were four times more likely to die than men and women who fell into the normal group.

The number of heart disease related deaths was only slightly higher among the overweight men in comparison with women in the similar group. In the same way, people who were suffering from diabetes and were overweight but had normal blood pressure levels did not register higher heart disease related deaths.

The overall research findings indicate that hypertension in overweight people needs to be taken seriously. In the case of overweight people there is a direct relationship between the blood pressure levels and heart related diseases. In addition, obesity can lead to increased cholesterol levels and risk of acquiring diabetes. The combination of excessive weight, high cholesterol levels, and diabetes can triple the risk of developing a cardiovascular disease.

Consult your doctor if you think that your weight is starting to cause health issues. Your doctor will be able to recommend a treatment that will work to achieve the weight loss and decrease in blood pressure levels. Heart related diseases should be taken seriously; therefore, don't underestimate the potential circumstances of hypertension in overweight people.
