high blood pressure and its treatment - blood pressure help, medical advice and information

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure - The older we get the higher the chance of us being affected by high blood pressure. Blood pressure readings usually give you two measurements: the first one being your systolic blood pressure and the second one being your diastolic blood pressure. Systolic blood pressure reading is an indicator of the intensity with which your heart is pumping blood out. Diastolic blood pressure reading is a measure of heart intensity between its beats.

There is a lot you can do to bring your blood pressure down. Some things you won't be able to do without your doctor's assistance and advice. Other things you can do on a regular basis at home. The latter include such lifestyle changes as regular exercise and a balanced diet. Talking up a minimum of 30 minute work out a day is going to help lower your blood pressure. In addition, introducing a variety of fruit and vegetables and reducing the consumption of fatty and salty foods is going to reinforce your efforts even further.

Another step in fighting hypertension is reducing your alcohol and nicotine consumption.
It does not mean that you can't occasionally enjoy a beer or a glass of wine. However, discuss with your doctor the extent that alcohol can interfere to in your particular case.

Prescribed medication is a well known way to treat high blood pressure. For some people it is, in fact, the only way to battle the disease. The common name for blood pressure drugs is antihypertensive medicines. Unfortunately, in many cases once you start taking this type of medication, your doctor will recommend you to keep taking it over the course of your life time to guard you from the possibility of a stroke or a heart attack. Like many others, hypertension medications have side effects and therefore it is absolutely necessary to consult your doctor before you start taking them.

As you can see, blood pressure symptoms can be treated with diet, exercise and medication. You can make it a life habit to practice the first two. Remember, prevention is always better than cure. It is particularly true in the case of high blood pressure.
